Important notice to all members – Track management has informed us that as of the start of this season, all vehicles will be required to maintain a noise level of no more than 95 db at a distance of 50 feet at any time during their burnout or run.  This will should not affect the street class or anyone with street legal mufflers as they should be well under the limit.  Pro cars running open headers will almost certainly be above this limit and will therefore require mufflers.  Please understand that we are the last club at the speedway to be implicated with this new rule.  This is a track ruling and our club/and or it’s executive have no choice in the matter.  As you are probably aware residents in the neighbourhood have been every diligent in badgering City Hall with regards to the noise from the track.  It should be noted that 95 db at 50 feet is still a pretty loud car.  The sprint car class used mufflers last year and we certainly wouldn’t refer to them as a quiet vehicle.

Racing type mufflers are available, that can meet this requirement, with zero horsepower loss.  Josh from Cords Auto Parts has been talking to Harold Corbett and attended our first meeting regarding the same.  He is working with a supplier from the US that can supply mufflers that will be no louder than 92 db at 50 feet without a loss of power.  I have looked online at the Jegg’s website and found reasonably priced racing type mufflers at a very low cost.  I am not sure if they are effective enough for this requirement, but I will call them myself and check into it and post the result soon.   The track management is simply trying to be the best neighbour they can in the area in order to keep the peace and ensure the track’s viability in the future.
